At Libraries Tasmania we love our volunteers!

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver high-quality services to the communities we support across Tasmania.

They share their knowledge, skills and time with our members, visitors, and staff.

Sunday 5 December is International Volunteer Day, and we are celebrating our volunteers!

From adult learning mentors and literacy tutors to State Library and Archive Service volunteers and Home Library Service couriers, to those who support 26TEN and our digivols online, our volunteers are valued by all areas of Libraries Tasmania. Thank you to all our generous and dedicated volunteers.

If you’re interested in volunteering at Libraries Tasmania in 2022, read the Libraries Tasmania Volunteer Information Guide and complete an expression of interest form.

Summer school holidays are here!

Our summer holiday program for kids – Solve It @ Your Library! – will be kicking off on 20 December 2021 and continuing until the end of January 2022.

There are heaps of things for the kids to Solve It @ Your Library this summer… They can discover what to read, where to find answers, what to do, how to have FUN! And the more time they spend reading, the more chances they have to win a Nintendo Switch!

Drop into to your local library to pick up a Solve It @ Your Library reading and activity booklet or download a copy here. Remember to register with your local library to enter the competition.

Parents can also enjoy a well-earned break, as we have loads of fun Libraries Tasmania activities and workshops to keep the kids busy and entertained across the summer! Watch out for these exciting kids’ activities at your local library:

The library in your pocket

We’re very excited to be expanding our digital offerings this month! December can be a busy time for many of us and making time to read and relax isn’t always at the top of the list… but we’re making it easy with the launch of our new, free Libraries Tasmania Lending App.

Using the app, you can access your membership, place holds, and browse the full Libraries Tasmania collection. The app is now available for download to any iOS or Android device.

And don’t forget all our existing eLibrary options that are designed so you can get your library fix straight to your device! We have thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, music and more.

Simply search the Libraries Tasmania eLibrary or download Libby, BorrowBox, or Story Box Library straight to your iOS or Android device.

Are movies your thing? You can stream movies for free with your Libraries Tasmania membership via Beamafilm.

If you’re looking for something digital to keep you busy, why not volunteer for Digivol.

Our Digivol volunteers transcribe and index information from our fascinating and unique Tasmanian collections. They play an important role in making our collections available for use globally!

Are you still keen to visit the library in person?

Get crafty, thoughtful, and adventurous by attending one of our local events this month:
